CYBERJAYA, NOVEMBER 6, 2025 – Awantec Systems Sdn Bhd (“Awantec”) is pleased to announce the outstanding success of the GEMINI NO-CODE HACKATHON, an innovative competition that concluded with the Final Presentation session at the Google Office on October 21, 2025. Launched on September 17, 2025 , the main objective of this event was to uncover the talent and creativity of Malaysian students in producing innovative applications without coding skills. It successfully used the AppSheet platform, integrated with Google Workspace and powered by Gemini AI technology , also yielding useful, potentially commercialisable institutional applications.
The hackathon targeted students currently studying at Higher Education Institutions (IPT) nationwide, including Public Universities, Polytechnics, and Community Colleges. The response was overwhelming, recording 105 registrations from the Public University Category and 51 registrations from the Polytechnic/Community College Category. Participants collaborated in teams (1-3 students) and were guided by a lecturer/staff member as a mentor. The innovation focus was on developing AppSheet applications that fully leveraged Gemini Apps technology to solve real problems or offer innovative solutions to their respective institutions.
Mr. Chok Joon Heng, Chief Operating Officer of Awantec, commented on the success: "This hackathon is a powerful testament that AI innovation is not limited to coders. By leveraging platforms like AppSheet and the power of Gemini, we are successfully democratising technology and empowering students across all IPTs to become creators and problem-solvers for the digital era. The quality of the applications demonstrates the immense potential of Malaysia’s future workforce."
The evaluation process was rigorous. Finalists, comprising 10 Public University teams and 15 Polytechnic/Community College teams , were assessed based on four main aspects during the final presentation: Idea and Innovation (uniqueness and added value of the solution) , Creativity (use of AppSheet and Gemini features for engaging design and user experience) , Functionality & Usability (quality, effectiveness in problem-solving, and practicality) , and Presentation (ability to convey ideas clearly and answer judges' questions effectively). The main challenge was to produce practical use-cases showcasing the combination of AppSheet functionality with Gemini's intelligence.

A thousand congratulations to all finalists and winners who demonstrated outstanding dedication and innovation. For the Public University Category, the Champion was DotComDotMy from Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI), followed by BitByBit.V3 (UNIMAS) and 2-in-1 (UM). Meanwhile, the Polytechnic & Community College Category saw InsightX from Politeknik METrO Tasek Gelugor crowned as Champion. Awantec expresses its highest appreciation to Google Malaysia and the Ministry of Higher Education (KPT) for their strong cooperation and support in making the GEMINI NO-CODE HACKATHON a success , proving that with the right tools, anyone can be an AI innovator.
