We believe that as a sustainable and responsible company, we have a role to play in reducing our carbon footprint and alleviating or avoiding the adverse impacts of greenhouse gases to make a positive difference in our environment and communities. Therefore, we are committed to align our action and disclosure as per recommendations of the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosure (TCFD) in our annual report. To fulfil our commitment in addressing climate change, we have embarked on the following initiatives: Measuring and Reporting Carbon Footprint As a supporter of TCFD and in line with the Paris Agreement's objective of limiting global warming to well below 2°C, we track and report our carbon consumption across all areas of our operations to identify where we can reduce, avoid the impact or improve our efficiency to set targets for reducing our emissions. By FY2023, Awantec further reinforces the practice by setting ambitious, science-based targets linked to each department's climate-related key performance indicators (KPIs). This helps us identify risks across various aspects, including operations, expenses, investments, and debt for business and financial planning to remain resilient. Our Sustainability Governance Our sustainability governance structure is established to represent and assist the Board of Directors (BOD) in meeting its fiduciary duty to oversee that ESG concerns are properly addressed in Awantec’s business strategy, risk and capital allocation. Each member of the governance has specified roles and responsibilities in the development and implementation of sustainability initiatives, which then will be communicated to all employees in delivering genuine results and impacts. Sustainability Governance Structure Under the leadership of the Board of Directors, Awantec manages the Group's sustainability strategy, ensuring it is aligned with long-term value creation. This comprehensive strategy includes clearly defined targets and a robust framework for addressing climate-related risks, with operational responsibilities delegated to a dedicated Sustainability Committee that plays a pivotal role in its execution. To effectively embed sustainability into executive decision-making, the compensation structure for senior executives is directly linked to their performance in achieving sustainability goals. Furthermore, a fixed 10% of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for all employees incorporates Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) considerations. This method not only encourages active participation in sustainability initiatives but also cultivates a collective commitment to sustainability across the organisation, emphasising its significance at every level. By aligning performance metrics with sustainability targets, Awantec fosters a culture where each employee is empowered to contribute to collective sustainability efforts, solidifying sustainability as a core priority for the Group in its pursuit of environmental objectives. On 27 October 2024, Awantec proudly engaged in a meaningful Corporate Social Responsibility (“CSR”) initiative in Langkawi, centred around the theme “Sun, Sea, and Fun.” This event was held in collaboration with Langkawi Trash Hero, a local non-governmental organisation dedicated to environmental preservation through beach clean-ups and educational outreach on sustainable waste management practices. Their persistent efforts not only help maintain the cleanliness of Langkawi’s picturesque beaches but also enhance the well-being of the local community while safeguarding the island’s fragile ecosystems. Langkawi has gained international recognition for its commitment to environmental conservation, having been designated as Southeast Asia’s first UNESCO Global Geopark in 2007. This designation underscores the island's dedication to protecting biodiversity and advancing eco-tourism. By implementing sustainable tourism practices, Langkawi ensures that its natural beauty is preserved for future generations. Before commencing the clean-up, the Trash Hero team provided essential training on identifying and prioritising specific pollutants, such as microplastics, plastic straws, and Styrofoam, all of which pose significant threats to marine life. Although the beach seemed pristine at first glance, a closer examination revealed a concerning amount of hidden debris, highlighting the necessity for ongoing clean-up initiatives to combat long-term environmental degradation. In just 45 minutes, our collective efforts resulted in the removal of 35 kg of waste from the shoreline. This initiative significantly reinforced Awantec’s commitment to sustainability, aligning with our Environmental, Social, and Governance (“ESG”) objectives. Partnering with Langkawi Trash Hero proved to be both enlightening and motivating, illustrating the collective responsibility required to maintain clean and healthy environments.
